Polish scientists developed a method for removing nanopollutions
As a result of the development of nanotechnology, more and more nonoobjects enter the environment. Some of them are waste dangerous to humans, other substances are valuable for reuse. Scientists from the Institute of Physical Chemistry PAS found a method that would allow to remove nanopollutions from wastewater easily and cheap.

Over gigawatt of wind energy in Poland
More than one gigawatt of energy can be produced by wind farms in Poland. There is now 347 such installations - Agnieszka Głośniewska from the Energy Regulatory Office told PAP.

Prof. Miętus: The climate in Poland is warming
The temperature in Central Europe in the coming decades will grow faster than in most other parts of the world. In Poland in the twenty-first century the climate will be warming twice as fast as in the second half of the twentieth century - according to research of the project "Impact of climate change on environment, economy and society", conducted by the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management (IMiGW).

Solar boat from Gdansk best in the world
Gdansk University of Technology (GUT) team took first place at international competition of boats powered by solar energy Frisian Solar Challenge in the Netherlands. Double boat sailed 220 km during 19 hours 25 minutes and 8 seconds.

The survey of Baltic Sea bed for the future marine reserve

Swedes and Poles want to produce biogas from marine algae
Authorities of Swedish Trelleborg together with the Polish Sopot want to use algae deposited on the beaches for the production of biogas. Swedish-Polish project has been discussed during the two-day meeting in Trelleborg.

"Green unit" for PLN one billion to be built in Połaniec
The world's largest biomass fuelled power unit is to be built in Połaniec power plant (Świętokrzyskie voivodship). Its power will be 190 MW. Starting is scheduled for the end of 2012, and the whole investment will cost over PLN one billion.

170 Polish schools apply for an international "Green Flag" certificate, indicating school’s commitment to the environmental activities and animating local communities. The best schools will be selected on May 28 at a conference at the Warsaw University of Technology.

In times of drought - geocomposites
Scientists from Wrocław and Katowice are working on developing a material to retain rainwater in the ground, which may help plants to vegetate in adverse conditions. The invention will be useful for biotechnical strengthening of slopes and embankments, planting of crops on poor soils, as well as for storage and transport of ornamental plants.
