Dr Maciej Konacki, an astronomer at the Nicolaus Copernicus Astronomical Centre PAS (CAMK) was just awarded in a prestigious competition of the European Research Council. The grant of EUR 1.5 million Konacki and his team received will fund building a network of telescopes in the southern hemisphere. Konacki’s project aims to explore the planets that eclipse binary stars (its title is: "Eclipsing binary stars as cutting edge laboratories for astrophysics of stellar structure, stellar evolution and planet formation"). Gold, silver and bronze of Polish contestants at the International Olympiad in Informatics
Adrian Jaskółka, high school student from Białystok, won the gold medal at the 22nd International Olympiad in Informatics in Waterloo (Ontario) in Canada. Student from France won Polish Language Championship for Foreigners

Outstanding Poland's veternarian honoured in Germany
Poland's Professor Ryszard Badura has received honorary doctor's degree from the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich. High scores of Polish contestants at Google Code Jam in Dublin
Marek Cygan from the University of Warsaw and Jakub Pachocki, this year's graduate of Naval Academy III High School in Gdynia took fifth and sixth place in the international Google Code Jam competition, organized for seven years.
