Medtube.pl - a new platform for doctors to exchange information

Medtube.pl - Poland's first internet service for practical exchange information between doctors of different medical specializations - is working. The creators of the information platform hope that thanks to this, doctors of different specializations, medical students, nurses and lifesavers will have access to photos, films, presentations or descriptions of interesting medical cases or knowledge that is hard to be self acknowledged.

The main aim of medtube.pl is exchange of experience and knowledge from all fields of medicine. The initiator of the service is Dr. Michał Wszoła, a lecturer at the Faculty and Clinic of General Surgery and Transplantation at Warsaw's Medical University. Wszoła in 2008 proceeded the first transplant of islets of Langerhans in Poland. "I came up with this idea whilst being on casualty, at the time I was performing a serious operation, and we only had a description and a few photos from an atlas surgeons often use. At that moment we thought, it would be useful to have a +multimedia atlas+. It is one thing to have an atlas and one photo and another to have a film or a series of photos from a similar operation and comments from another doctor" - said Dr. Wszoła. "A while after the thought about the +multimedia atlas+, I thought that in the age of social networks, why shouldn't medical professionals have their own website on which they could submit their own materials. This could be very useful for doctors from smaller clinics" - said the initiator of this website. The photos and films of medical cases and operations are available for everybody for free. Things like presentations or specialist tests are available only for those registered on the service. This way, the creators want to build some type of community of professionals who can regularly through the website exchange information and experiences. Every published piece of information must meet the demands of set criteria. The value of every photo, description of medical cases and presentations are evaluated and later published by people who have at least a Ph.D. in Medicine. This allows the service to make sure that the materials serve strictly for medical purposes. Users who submit their materials are informed via email whether their materials have been published or not. PAP - Science and Scholarship in Poland, tr.ajb, Ewelina Krajczyńska agt/bsz
