Most Poles feel European

Seventy-seven percent of Poles in an OBOP survey declared they felt European, 23 percent stated the opposite. 65 percent spoke positively about Poland's EU membership.

9 percent were displeased with Poland's EU membership.

Most of the Europe-supporters were enterprisers, school youth and students (each 90 percent). Only 66 percent of pensioners considered themselves European.

Membership in the European community was more often declared by men (81 percent) than women (74 percent).

Asked if civilizationally and culturally Poland belonged to eastern or western Europe, 44 percent said to both, 30 percent to the west and 17 percent to the east.

According to OBOP the percentage of Poles who feel or do not feel European has not changed from Poland's EU accession (May 2004).

OBOP ran the poll on June 4-8 on a random sample of 1,005 Poles over 15. MB
